Big news out of The Talib Kweli camp, apparently Talib will soon be unveiling his newest album called Gutter Rainbows.  The Brooklyn MC tweeted yesterday

Putting the finishing touches on my new album Gutter Rainbows, available sooner than you think (MPhazes, EJones, S1, HiTek, SkiBeatz etc..)

It’s safe to say that as Reflection Eternal, Black Star and overall Talib Kweli fan, im pretty stoked about this one.

On a non-musical note, this will be my last official post on this actual site.  At exactly 12:00 EST tonight, we will be switching to our brand new, handcrafted (by yours truly) blog over at allinmyheadmusic.com.  It’s pretty hard to believe that this was some dumb idea I had in an engineering lecture, and that just 3 months ago I was sitting at a computer in the basement of the school library begging Mitch and Dan do make this blog with me to prove I wasn’t crazy.  Anyways, The whole team here at All In My Head has been hard at work over the past month designing this new site so we hope you love it.  At midnight, I’ll post on both this site and the new one telling you guys all awesome changes we have for the new site.  Peace.

Oh yea, four unbelievable acts not just under the same roof, but on the same stage too.  This performance came during the chicago stop of the Hennessy Artistry Tour, for which Big Sean was also present.  It’s cool to see 4 acts, all of which incorporate jazz music into their songs in some way get thrown onto one single track.

Here is the link for the video- Q-Tip w/The Roots & Curren$y – Lets Ride (Live Chicago)

Check out the music video for Chiddy Bang’s new single “The Good Life”.  Not quite as visually (or musically) impressive as “Truth” or “The Opposite of Adults“, but it’s definitely an enjoyable way 3 minutes and 5 seconds of your life.

Nope, that’s not a typo up there, this is real live new music from Chuck Inglish and Mikey Rocks.  Turns out its produced by legendary drummer-producer Travis Barker (the dude with all the tattoos in Blink-182).  Being as we’ve been in a bit of a drought as far as new Cool Kids tracks, you’ll definitely want to get your hands on this one.

Today’s fuck-off friday is a track by one of the all time greats, Jay-Z.  After seeing a lyric from this track on my neighbor (and former roomate’s) fb status, I decided to listen to this song all the way through.  The fact that while I was listening to it, I saw that Spin called Jay’s latest string of concerts with Eminem “The Illest Ever”, I knew this was meant to be.  So as youre preparing to do whatever it is you do on friday nights, enjoy this timeless DJ Premier produced classic off of Hov’s debut, Reasonable Doubt, D’Evils.

Despite my desperate attempts to avoid posting about anyone involved with G.O.O.D. music for the next few days, it seems as if Kanye has taken a big brother-style approach in forbidding anyone else in music from making news and/or releasing tracks (but actually..).  Anyways, Kid Cudi was featured on the cover of the latest issue of Complex and amidst an interview I’m sure was full of Cudi talking about how “next-level” his music is, the topic of fellow rapper Wale was brought up

Complex: Speaking of Wale, when you hit that fan at your show last December, he came out with a line about it [“Throwin’ ’round wallets like the dude that Kid Cudi hit,” from “Thank You Freestyle”].

KiD CuDi: It wasn’t a shot, it’s just a simple-ass rhyme by a simple-ass rapper. You can’t let that shit faze you. That’s one of those raps that just shows the world that you wack. Why would you even use that as a metaphor? Everybody think they Hov. Niggas ain’t got the magic like they think they do; there’s only a couple of wizards in this game. I’m a wizard and I know it.

I have to say, reading about how Cudi dissed Wale and in turn referred to himself as a “wizard” probably made my day.  Anyways, Mr. Folarin (who for the record, is in my opinion a much more talented rapper than Mr. Rager) responded via Twitter saying “niggas lettin that liquid cocaine get to them…..lets go then”.  Sounds like a all-out melee is on the way.  In other news, Wiz Khalifa tweeted earlier “i feel like a guitar solo right now. haha”.  So…hes still hilarious.

So as I stumbled out of bed this morning, I saw 2 headlines back-to-back, both of which caught my eye and in turn made me laugh.

First up, from the ever-comical Dwayne Carter, and update regarding his prison stay at Riker’s Island

Sources tell the Village Voice that Weezy lives V.I.P. style on Rikers with restaurant deliveries and other preferential treatment.

Apparently (and probably unsurprisingly), Weezy has been getting food delivered to him from local pizzerias as well as Jackson Hole (no, not the city in Wyoming-for all you non-New Yorkers, Jackson Hole is a chain of restaurants that specializes in half-pound, delicious hamburgers).  Additionally, Wayne has been getting music paraphernalia and tips as to when he will be searched.  Kids these days…

The next headline, assuredly the more humorous, read

“Bizarre and crew call out Nick Cannonfor his Slick Rick imitation, and then say Mariah’s boo is a “God awful rapper.”

This was in response to the latest Nick Cannon Track (yea, he still makes music…when he’s not hosting America’s Got Talent), in which he responded to an earlier Eminem diss track from several months ago.  Anyways, Bizarre and the rest of D12 aren’t taking shit from Mr. Nickelodeon, hopefully this will lead to a full group rebuttal in the future.

So a few weeks ago I posted about an up and coming Welsh band called The Joy Formidable.  Well they’re prepping to release a new album soon, and they have been kind enough to post the first single on their website for your listening enjoyment.  If you liked the tracks from A Balloon Called Moaning (including the one below) then you’ll definitely enjoy this one called “I Don’t Want To See You”.

Here is the most popular track from their first EP, called “Whirring”

I read this headline on Hip Hop DX this morning and could not help but think how much of a change it represented:

B.o.B Headlines Concert For President Obama

It seemed like just yesterday I was watching B.O.B entertain the modest crowds at Rock The Bells ’08, barely strumming out the chords to “Lovelier Than You” while Playboy Tre (at the time, Georgia Durt) had to hold the mic up for him.  The young Bobby Ray had only recently begun learning the guitar, using it as something of a gimmick to entertain fans in between mellow stoner jams like Cloud 9.

Georgia Durt holdin it down in the orange T at RTB '08

At the time of course, nobody had any idea this little guitar gimmick would pave the way for a new breed of rock-fueled rap, where MC’s like Talib Kweli and Lupe Fiasco would go on entire tours with full bands, not Dj’s, putting down the background sounds.  You can thank ?uestlove and the rest of The Roots if you wish, but you would have a hard time arguing that B.O.B was not the one bringing the guitars and drums to sold out Comerica Park shows with Eminem and Jay-Z and events held by the president of the United States, let alone the top of the charts.  While I am a bit sad that B.O.B’s music has started to take a turn for the mainstream (case and point), I am still thrilled to see the success that this young rapper has had while being able to say that I was able to watch the transformation happen in front of my eyes.  Having had the privilege to see the man in concert on 4 separate occasions (at 4 distinctly different times in his career), I feel that I have been able to watch Bob’s transition from weed laced synth jam rapper to adrenaline filled new wave club rapper with each successive performance.  Regardless, I’m happy for the guy, but for now, enjoy a timeless classic from the original 12th Dimension-EP
